Learn about Lumenera’s open API for network cameras

Although Lumenera products span a broad range of image sensor device types and manufacturers, we have worked to keep the API (Application Programming Interface) consistent from one camera model to the next. For example, the same API call to any one of our cameras will allow your software to initiate a motion JPEG stream: GET /cgi-bin/nph-video HTTP/1.0

This instruction format is standard across all cameras and from one firmware release to the next. While different Lumenera camera models will provide different image resolution or frame rate, the client software does not need to be rewritten to account for each model. A generic interface can easily be written to store or display JPEG images from any Lumenera network camera. Many partners are pleasantly surprised to learn that there is zero effort required to add support for another Lumenera network camera in their video management solution – it is already supported! There really is no significant development required to move up to, say, a 5 megapixel camera.

From the inception of our network camera line 6 years ago, Lumenera has produced an open, fully documented API. This open API allows any partner to develop software to in order to support as many or as few of the camera’s advanced functions as are required. A few higher end camera vendors will not publish their API. Lumenera, on the other hand, seeks to be easy to integrate and easy to partner with.
