PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT

“HD” and “IP” Go Back To the Future
By James Mihaychuk, Product Manager

It is the 6-year anniversary of Lumenera's network camera products. There has been a lot of industry buzz of late about IP cameras “going HD.” It is worth pointing out that Lumenera has been a leader in the manufacturing and marketing of megapixel and multi-megapixel cameras since 2003. From the inception of Lumenera in 2002, high-resolution digital imaging research and technology had been the cornerstone of the organization.

Whether you use the “megapixel” terminology of digital still cameras, or the HDTV language, the expectations for image quality are higher than ever before. Today control room operators and jurors in a court of law expect to see images that are as good or better than the images on their point-and-shoot digital camera or their 1080i digital cable home theatre system.

Li175C-DN Surveillance Camera Used in Pipeline Monitoring

Lumenera was chosen for a manifold pipeline monitoring project. This security installation will occur overseas in a high temperature climate providing imaging challenges that Lumenera is able to overcome with its wide range of megapixel network cameras with varying capabilities and features. The pipeline will be monitored and recorded from several vantage points using the Li175C-DN 1.3 megapixel surveillance camera featuring Object Video analytics. The pipeline project will employ analytic rules such as directional traffic or object left behind to effectively alert operators to any concerns on the pipeline when a positive event alarm is triggered.

The state of the art analytic abilities combined with the Li045’s high sensitivity and outstanding picture quality allow for potential threats or illegal activity to be quickly identify and prevented. This mission critical solution is proving to be a very successful and Lumenera’s client is very pleased with the solution implemented.

Compare Lumenera's Multi-Megapixel Digital Zoom to Standard Resolution

Realizing the full power of digital zoom requires a high-resolution camera, a good-quality megapixel lens, and a professional installation. To maximize the digital zoom capability the correct vantage point is also essential.

These images illustrate what you can expect to see in an overview of a parking lot with a standard resolution camera vs. Lumenera multi megapixel cameras. The images from the Le575 5-megapixel camera and the Le11059 11-megapixel camera are clearly superior, with excellent detail on a vehicle make, a person’s face, and license plate characters.

Lumenera makes it easy for you to successfully deploy high-resolution IP cameras to take full advantage of the digital zoom capabilities seen here.
