Lt16059H: High Performance 16 Megapixel 35 mm CCD USB 3.0 Camera

Lt16059HLumenera is working hard to develop the Lt16059H camera to be the best camera on the market using the ON Semiconductor (Truesense) KAI-16070 sensor. This KAI-16070 is a high-performance 16 MP sensor with 7.4 µm pixel size making it ideal for applications where high dynamic range and high resolution are required.

The Lt16059H surpasses the competition with a frame rate of 12 fps at full resolution over USB 3.0. The new KAI-16070 boasts a smear performance of 32dB better than the KAI-16000 and supports a global electronic shutter that captures high quality, high-speed images. Our unique dual-gain HDR feature produces a full resolution image from the same frame processed through two different gain amplifiers. This award winning HDR implementation by Lumenera ensures HDR images of fast moving targets are produced with zero blur.

Lumenera’s creative HDR implementation produces a crisp merged image with no ghosting effects which makes it ideal for imaging high-speed objects with intelligent traffic systems. Built for rugged 24/7 use, this industrial-grade camera is suitable for use in traffic, UAVs, automated license plate recognition, and machine vision applications.

TECHNOLOGY PROFILE: HIGH-RESOLUTION IMAGING BETTER PERFORMANCE AT LOWER SYSTEM COSTS

Almost all modern Intelligent Transportation Systems use imaging to automatically detect, classify and identify vehicle and drivers, or recognized stopped and wrong-way traffic or hazardous objects on the road.

Due to the fundamental and often safety critical role played by imaging and the increasing need for automatic image analysis, the use of industrial-grade equipment is absolutely essential. Machine vision (MV) cameras and advances in image sensor and camera interface technologies provide much greater resolution, speed sensitive and dynamic range. This gives better system performance with fewer manual process steps, in addition to higher revenues due to increased accuracy in automatic licence plate recognition (ALPT). It also reduces system complexity and cost, as multiple lanes can be monitored with fewer cameras.

WHEN COLOR MATTERS

Many people take color reproduction from digital cameras for granted. These days, our digital consumer cameras have many automatic features built in to provide sharp, color-enhanced images. Unfortunately, these types of automated features are not ideal for applications where exact color reproduction is critical for reproducibility in research, diagnosis and even manufacturing applications.

A great challenge for manufacturers of consumer products is accurate color matching. Manufacturers are often building products that require consistent color through from the beginning of the process to the last unit off the line. Products built months apart require the exact same color as a previous build. So how does a manufacturer ensure the products they produce match the exact color requirements for the customer? How does one guarantee color consistency across all component s of a product over its life cycle?

The solution: A pantone color matching validation system using high resolution, quality cameras that can provide excellent, consistent color reproduction in the images produced by the camera. High resolution images are output to a central computer with custom software which then performs accurate color matching analysis.

EVENTS

WHERE WE'VE BEEN

LUMENERA AT THE VISION CHINA SHOW: Lumenera exhibited at the Vision China show, March 17-19 in Shanghai.

At the Lumenera booth, two live demonstrations took place, each of which featured a different type of Lumenera USB 3.0 camera.

In the first demonstration, Lumenera showcased the abilities of our yet-to-be-released Lt16059H color camera which is equipped with a 16 MP ON Semiconductor (Truesense) KAI-16070 CCD image sensor with a 7.4 µm pixel size that can achieve a frame rate of 11 fps at full resolution. This USB 3.0 camera is suitable for use in traffic, UAVs, and factory automation applications.

Automate 2015LUMENERA AT AUTOMATE 2015: We were also at the Automate Show this month in Chicago, where we provided a live demonstration using two of our USB 3.0 cameras — the Lt965R and the Lt665R.

The demonstration was built around an antique record player in which the Lt965R accurately defined text with each frame (as a traffic application would need to), while the Lt665R recognized unique objects (in this case, a holographic image, which is indicative of an inspection application). Automate is the largest solutions-based showcase of automation technologies in North America.

Corporate Updates

Accredited Vision Professionals Enable Lumenera to Better Support Customers Worldwide

Lumenera’s CVP accredited Sales Engineers demonstrate their commitment to providing customers with first-class products and support.

Lumenera is proud to announce that two members of their sales team have received the AIA Basic Vision Certified Professional designation: Brendan Lelieveld-Amiro, Sales Engineer based in North America, and Andy Li, Sales Engineer based in China.

The Certified Vision Professional program (CVP), offered by the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), involves knowledge training and testing for vision professionals. The CVP offers two levels of certification, Basic and Advanced, and maintaining certification requires continuing education every three years. The courses and final exams are offered at AIA’s trade shows and conferences, including The Vision Show and Automate, which Lumenera recently attended.

The Basic level of the CVP requires proficiency in the fundamentals of lighting and optics for machine vision, camera and image sensor technology, and image processing. The Advanced level certification requires additional proficiency in color theory and applications, reliable vision application development, 3D vision technology, non-visible imaging theory and techniques, designing high-speed and linescan vision systems, metrology and 2D calibration techniques, particle analysis and classification techniques, vision guided robotics, and machine vision integration.

Andy Li received his AIA Basic Certification in November, 2014 and Brendan Lelieveld-Amiro completed his recently at Automate in March 2015. Both Sales Engineers are working towards achieving the Advanced level.

As a global leader with cameras on all continents, Lumenera’s addition of the CVP accredited Sales Engineers demonstrate their commitment to providing customers with first-class products and support. Andy Li, as Lumenera’s first appointment in Asia, will help drive the company’s Asian efforts, allowing Lumenera to expand their presence in the area and gain a deeper insight into the needs of their customers and the emerging markets in the region.
