Lumenera Provides Microscopy Cameras for Thermal Imaging

METTLER TOLEDO produces instruments used in research, scientific and quality control labs, and various industries including: pharmaceutical, chemical, food and cosmetics. Lumenera's INFINITY line of microscopy cameras are used by METTLER TOLEDO for thermal microscopy.

Thermal microscopy has benefited enormously from the recent advances in digital imaging and PC technology. In order to harness these advancements, METTLER TOLEDO leveraged the capabilities of the INFINITY1-5C microscopy camera.

By selecting Lumenera's INFINITY1-5C for its thermal imaging applications, METTLER TOLEDO was able to satisfy many demanding requirements. To read a full list of these requirements please click here.

How to

Imaging Pathology Samples with a CCD-Based INFINITY2-2 Camera

Pathology, the study and diagnosis of disease, requires samples to be stained with various colors. The exact reproduction of these colors by a microscopy camera is critical to the study.

Challenge
Stained clinical samples pose a variety of challenges for scientific digital imaging. Samples tend to have multiple colors which must be reproduced exactly as seen in the microscope eyepiece. Many cameras do an excellent job reproducing primary colors (red, green and blue), but are challenged by non-primary colors (pink and purple) which are used frequently in clinical stains. In addition the preview on the computer must have a high enough frame rate to avoid lag during sample manipulation.

Solution
Lumenera has produced the INFINITY series of CMOS and CCD cameras with superb color reproduction, high frame rates, and intuitive advanced image capture and analysis software.

Color Reproduction
Lumenera has worked tirelessly to ensure that the color seen on a monitor closely matches that seen through the eyepiece of the microscope. When viewing an Hematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) stain the basofilic structures have the expected purple-blue color while eosinophilic structures retain the red, pink and orange coloration. This is possible through the combination of extremely high quality CMOS and CCD sensors and color algorithms that have been perfected through years of experience.

Speed
Aside from color, speed is also critical for high-throughput pathology applications. Lumenera’s INFINITY2-2C reaches speeds of 12 frames per second (fps) at full 2 megapixel resolution. Reduced resolution and binning allow the cameras to reach speeds as high as 80 fps. All INFINITY cameras are plug-and-play, making for easy installation. In addition, the software included with each INFINITY camera includes two applications; INFINITY CAPTURE and INFINITY ANALYZE. Both are designed to be easy-to-use while offering a high number of dedicated microscopy features. The software can be automated through automatic exposure and capture to file options, allowing quick, easy image capture. Each image has a unique name and can be easily filed in any documentation system.

Lumenera’s line of INFINITY scientific cameras use CMOS, CCD, Low Light CCD, Large Format and Pixel-Shifting sensors with resolutions ranging from 1.3 to 32 megapixel.

Lumenera Presents

Lumenera's Senior Imaging Engineer Nick Bulitka Presented at the Eighteenth Color and Imaging Conference in San Antonio, Texas

Nick Bulitka, Senior Imaging Engineer, presented "Image Sensors: An Under the Hood Look at How They Work" at the Color and Imaging Conference for Color Science and Engineering Systems, Technologies, and Applications.

In this course, Mr. Bulitka explained how photons are transformed into signal electrons and an output voltage in image sensors, to an audience of engineers and scientists who wanted to gain a better understanding of how image sensors work.

Participants learned what makes CCD image sensors tick, the basic building blocks that make up an image sensor, and the impact of image sensors on color performance.

If you would like to learn more about the information presented in this course please email us at info@lumenera.com.
