PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT

Lumenera Continues to Offer Advanced High-Definition Technology

High-definition (HD) refers to display resolutions of 1280×720 pixels (720p) or 1920×1080 pixels (1080i/1080p) and is considered the new imaging standard. For a Lumenera digital camera to be considered HD it requires a 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the 4:3 aspect ratio seen in standard cameras. The higher aspect ratio provides a larger width to height ratio in the images produced which is important when looking at industrial landscapes such as lanes of traffic on a highway or at a toll booth. Lumenera is proud to offer this aspect ratio in our industrial cameras for precise and clear images.

Generally HD cameras have a fixed frame of either P (progressive) or I (interlaced) scan. Typical frame rates follow TV broadcast standards being 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, 50, 59.95, and 60fps. All these resolutions can either be interlaced or progressive scan modes.

Lumenera offers the Lw290 board level camera and the Lw295 enclosed camera, both true HD imaging solutions supporting HD resolution and frame rates. As with all of our industrial products, this camera is progressive scan. The Lu170, Lu175, Lw570 and Lw570 can also provide video in HD format.

PARTNERSHIP

Lumenera is Proud to Provide the Imaging Component of Hartness Internationals’ Innovative FlashBack System.

Hartness International developed FlashBack, a cutting-edge, high speed video solution to help manufacturers identify production line faults easily and efficiently and allow for a smooth manufacturing process. By analyzing the motion of production equipment using Lumenera’s Le075 megapixel ethernet camera FlashBack can quickly identify the cause of problems and enable users to take quick, decisive and accurate action to remedy the error.

Lumenera’s high performance digital cameras are placed at potential fault points or inaccessible areas in the manufacturing line. Global electronic shutter, high dynamic range and extreme sensitivity make these cameras ideal for applications with poor lighting conditions, fast moving objects and high contrast scenes. When an error, or event that stops production, occurs the camera system will automatically “flash back” and allow you to view a recording of up to 2 minutes prior to the line error and up to 240 minutes after the occurrence. This eliminates time consuming ‘scrolling’ through hours of video to find the fault occurrence as the FlashBack solution only records a video clip of the error. This allows manufacturers determine the root cause of the stoppage and quickly rectify the issue.

Hartness International chose Lumenera’s cameras for their megapixel resolution, excellent sensitivity, and high dynamic range. Capturing full 640x480 resolution with native VGA at 60fps these industrial cameras deliver outstanding picture quality and performance.

Lumenera's Greg Bell, VP Business Development, Spoke at the 2009 EMVA Conference in Dublin Ireland

Greg Bell presented 'Key Challenges for Growing Industrial Imaging Companies' on May 15th at the 7th annual EMVA conference in Dublin, Ireland. Mr. Bell analyzed how small to mid-sized companies compete in international markets with large multi-national competitors already in place.

Highlights included:
• How to begin market expansion with a modest budget and changing business conditions.
• When does a global supply chain make sense?
• Merger or acquisition as a growth strategy.

Mr. Bell helped participants determine strategies for penetrating new markets from a sales/marketing perspective to maximize revenue growth and to recognize the pros and cons of low-cost-producing countries in leveraging manufacturing efficiencies.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. How can I increase the distance between my computer and my USB Industrial Camera?

Lumenera’s cameras work with long distance cabling to increase camera distance. For applications that require a wide gap between the camera and the computer Lumenera can work with USB 2.0 extenders to provide the needed cable length. Now USB 2.0 cable extenders can increase the distance of the camera from a 5m to 100m. This is especially beneficial for applications in remote locations where the computer is located far away or in hard to reach places such as traffic applications.

For ranges beyond 100m we can provide CAT5 and Optical extenders, available from preferred suppliers.
