Lumenera Offers Excellent Sensitivity for Industrial and Traffic Management Applications
One frequent challenge for industrial applications is poor lighting conditions. Aging
lighting systems and the unwillingness to invest in expensive illumination result in less than optimal intensity and wavelength ranges required for precise imaging. In most cases, it is also far less costly to use more sensitive cameras with a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of 80,000 hours (~9 years), than to upgrade to a factory illumination system requiring periodic maintenance in order to continue operating at optimal conditions.
For industrial applications requiring outstanding sensitivity, Lumenera offers the Lu165 and Lm165 industrial USB 2.0 cameras. Not only do these cameras excel in sensitivity in the visible and near infrared (NIR) regions, but they also have other key industrial features such as high dynamic range, megapixel resolution of 1392 x 1040, selectable 8/12-bit output, USB 2.0 interface, and locking connectors (Lm). Typical machine vision applications include quality control in conveyor lines, electronics manufacturing inspection, robotics, high-end scanning, X-Ray imaging, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) night vision, and military operations.
High sensitivity is a key feature for a variety of applications, ranging from autonomous vehicles to traffic management, which typically occur in both ambient and very low-light conditions. For these applications, Lumenera offers the Lm165 and the Le165 in both color and monochrome variants. The Lm165 with a USB 2.0 interface allows the host to analyze the Raw RGB data before saving or discarding the image. The Le165 with its Ethernet interface provides compressed JPEG images and offers valuable features such as auto DC-Iris control, long reach network connections, multiple motion detection zones, day/night mode for active IR, auto white balance, and auto exposure and gain controls. Lumenera’s Lm165 and Le165 are excellent for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) functions used in Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR), red light enforcement, speed enforcement, toll applications, traffic, bridge and tunnel monitoring, and automobile and driver recognition.

LEARN HOW OUR CAMERAS ARE BEING USED
Lumenera’s Advanced Network Cameras for Traffic Enforcement
The demand for automated traffic enforcement in urban environments is on the rise. Automated ticketing for red-light, speeding and signal violations, traffic monitoring, and the supervision of toll booths, ferries, and border crossings, are all applications that require the capture of megapixel video sequences for use as evidence, for character recognition of licence plates, and to identify drivers from a still image.
Previously, most traffic video surveillance applications employed under-performing, antiquated analog camera infrastructure, suffering from cost and complexity issues due to coaxial cables used to transmit data, as well as framegrabber cards required to digitize analog video. Increasing the amount of cameras deployed meant increasing the cost and complexity. As digital cameras were first introduced, the benefits of megapixel digital image storage and analysis came at a high cost due to the requirements for framegrabber cards and dedicated computers installed near the camera site.
Today, Lumenera’s network and USB 2.0 cameras eliminate the need for framegrabbers. The on-camera memory can reduce the need for multiple computers when working with numerous cameras at one site. Traffic video surveillance has benefited from Lumenera’s flexible and remotely configurable digital imaging platform by providing the ability to image areas with a wide overview such as multiple traffic lanes, or gather detailed images of specific regions of interest. All models feature user-configurable exposure time, gain level, image size, strobe output, day/night settings, and on-camera memory.
Lumenera’s Le075, Lm165, Le165, Lw235, Le259, Lw11059 and Le11059 cameras feature short-exposure capabilities (<0.1ms), high sensitivity and global-shutter image sensors, and are ideal for capturing crisp images of fast-moving objects that are free of blur, without the skew normally found when imaging fast-moving objects with rolling-shutter devices. Since the imagers operate in a progressive scan mode, the even and odd lines of the image are also exposed at the same time, unlike the interlaced cameras common in analog CCTV.

EXCITING PROJECTS
Lumenera Introduces New Custom LED Illumination Camera
Powerful, cost-effective solution ideal for visible spectrum to NIR vision applications
Lumenera announces the release of a new 1.3 megapixel custom imaging solution with integrated LED illumination, ideal for a variety of vision applications and OEM projects with strict lighting requirements.
Lumenera’s latest custom camera is a powerful, cost-effective solution featuring a concentrated LED light cluster. The combination of lighting, a 1280 x 1024 CMOS resolution sensor, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a rolling shutter allow the capture of crisp, precise images of moderately moving objects or persons up to a distance of 10 meters without the need for additional lighting. The color camera model is ideal for visible spectrum lighting while the monochrome variant is perfectly suited for near infrared (NIR) illumination applications. Both are fully supported by the Lumenera Software Developer’s Kit (SDK) with its sample code available to quickly integrate camera functions into OEM applications. High-speed USB 2.0 interface provides simple plug-and-play integration with any DirectShow application.
“As with our other 80 custom camera models, this active illumination camera model can be easily tailored to suit any application through a variety of readily available lenses, lighting and camera resolutions,” stated Sebastien Dignard, Director of Business Development, Lumenera Corporation. “Leverage the success of Lumenera’s line of high-performance USB 2.0 cameras and superior SDK for easy integration into your industrial imaging projects, improving time to market, and reducing development costs and risks.”
