Lumenera's New 64-bit Operating System Support- Coming Soon
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve customer service and support, Lumenera will be introducing 64-bit operating system support for all of our camera products in Q3/08. This process is slowly being phased in as our camera software packages are updated.
For our first release, we will be introducing 64-bit support for our industrial cameras
through the LuCam software as a Beta software version. It will go into full production with the following software package release. The Beta release for the first software package will coincide with our next LuCam software release, version 4.7.0 while the full production release will be available with LuCam Software 4.8.0 (anticipated release - Winter 2009).
If you are running a 64-bit operating system, you will be able to take advantage of this new camera driver and software support. Existing 32-bit applications will run with our 64-bit camera drivers, or you can migrate your applications to full 64-bit support to take full advantage of your computer’s more powerful CPU.
For application developers using the Lumenera API functions, it is important to note that two versions of our camera libraries (DLLs) will be provided, to support both 32-bit and 64-bit applications.
If you have any questions on our new 64-bit software support, feel free to contact us at support@lumenera.com.

LEARN HOW OUR CAMERAS ARE BEING USED
Case Study: Custom Imaging Solution for Robotic Welding Machine Application
A well known machine vision company has chosen Lumenera to design and manufacture the vision component of its next generation robotic welding machine inspection system . Lumenera was chosen for its expertise in custom and OEM imaging solutions, enabling it’s customer to deliver improved product quality, better operational processes, and reduce costs.
Traditionally, robotic welders had to manually inspect each weld tip. This process took considerable time and required that the cell be completely shut down during the inspection process. In other cases, robotic welders would just assume the tip was no longer useful after a certain number of welds, and would waste resources and dollars by throwing the tip away without knowing its true quality. In order to avoid interrupted production and maximize valuable time and money, an imaging solution was required that would specifically analyze the welding tips to determine if they needed to be dressed and ensure they were not damaged or misshaped. When a mashed or mushroom shaped tip was found, the part was dressed in order to produce a proper arc.
In developing its prototype, our customer was in need of a “one-stop-shop” that could assist with the development of its model, the creation of a custom enclosure, the addition of specific components, the assembly of the camera and the delivery of one complete, seamless solution. Relying on only one company to manage its project eliminated the timely task of finding multiple suppliers.

EVENT
The Vision Show- Boston, MA
At The Vision Show, Lumenera was pleased to showcase the following higher-end, quality products:
- Lumenera's Mini Form Factor Cameras - The Lm camera series is perfectly suited for machine vision applications where camera size and the
ability to stop motion are important factors, such as bar code reading and fill level detection. The Lm165’s excellent sensitivity and electronic global shutter make it an ideal solution for bar code reading. The camera’s exposure setting can be set very low which, in turn, allows it to process the bar code much faster than insensitive cameras with rolling shutters. 2D bar codes are easily and accurately read, due to the Lm165’s megapixel resolution. The Lm075 was also on display, running with MVTec’s Halcon software to analyze fill levels.
- Lumenera’s 11 Megapixel CCD Camera - This camera is ideal for a variety of
industrial and security applications where ultra-high resolution and low-light performance are required. The Lw11059 offers 3.5 fps (burst at 5.0 fps) at full 4008x2672 resolution, low noise, high-speed USB 2.0, DirectShow connectivity, and excellent sensitivity with high fidelity color.
- Lumenera’s New Lm085 Ultra-Wide Dynamic Range Camera - This camera features a ultra-wide dynamic range option that improves the sensitivity of the camera from ~55db to ~100db. This capability improves the camera’s ability to detect image details when the camera is looking at a scene containing both very bright and dark areas. This is common when a camera mounted inside a building is directed towards a window or glass door. Under these circumstances typical cameras must use either a longer exposure to capture the details in the darker interior, or use a short exposure to reveal the details in the bright exterior scene, always sacrificing one for the other. A camera equipped with this high dynamic range feature allows for interior and exterior details at the same time.

CORPORATE NEWS
Lumenera's Manufacturing Department
Lumenera’s manufacturing department is recognized for consistently developing high quality cameras and performing meticulous quality assurance testing to ensure all standards are met. The past five years have seen this department grow ten-fold in full time staff. Each team member brings expertise and skills from their many different backgrounds, several possessing advanced optics experience from major telecom companies. Consisting of eight teams, the manufacturing department constructs a Lumenera camera through the following steps:
- Cleaning imager and glass
- Installing the imager into the enclosure
- Performing functional and cleanliness test
- Performing burn-in test
- Capturing final images
- Rigorous quality inspection
This procedure is performed for each of the 882 camera models and variants that Lumenera offers to meet the needs of our users.
Lumenera's manufacturing process is unique from others in that it uses a sophisticated proprietary process for cleaning and testing cameras, making for an efficient and seamless assembly.
Most importantly, the manufacturing department performs 100% outgoing inspection on all Lumenera cameras. Images captured at the end of the build process are examined for defects, the enclosure is reviewed for imperfections, the part number constructed is compared to the part number ordered, and the serial number is recorded. Lumenera’s commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction would not be possible without the skilled and knowledgeable manufacturing department making sure the finest products are delivered to our customers.
